What were we thinking when we put Gary Larson's newest bestseller, There's a Hair in My Dirt! A Worm's Story, on our nonfiction bestseller chart last week? Part of our confusion was because most of the booksellers reporting included the book on their nonfiction lists (true even for the national chains-Barnes &Noble and Borders). HarperCollins points out that one need only open the front cover of the book for it to "become eminently, nay diaphanously, clear that this is a sustained narrative, a graphic novel, in fact," wrote communications manager David Rakoff. No fools, we -- at least not twice -- so look for it on the fiction list.No one will make a mistake when reporting HarperPerennial's latest bestseller, The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy, which hit the trade paper chart in the #10 spot after just one week in the stores. It has 135,000 copies in print after three trips to press. Roy's fiction debut enjoyed a stellar tenure of 32 weeks on PW's hardcover fiction list.
