Just last week in this space we wondered how well Wally Lamb's new bestseller, I Know This Much Is True, would do without being one of Oprah's Book Club Picks. His first novel, She's Come Undone, was Oprah Pick #4, and went on to be one of her most successful choices: the book boasts three million copies in print. But Lamb hit the jackpot again when Oprah chose the 896-page tome as pick #17 (and the last one before her show's summer hiatus). When she made the announcement on June 18 she had Lamb on the show as a surprise guest -- the first time the chosen author was on air when the book club pick was announced. Lamb's novel was optioned by Twentieth Century Fox for a feature film; publisher and editor Judith Regan will serve as producer. The new in-print total for the book is 560,000 copies and Lamb has bookstore appearances scheduled through July 23.
