Franklin Spier, one of the largest advertising agencies for the book industry, has changed its name to Spier NY. According to the company, the new name reflects Spier's expansion into consumer software and magazines, as well as its launch of Spier Interactive, which is designed to meet the demand for interactive advertising and marketing services.
Its expansion into new areas, however, d s not mean the company is abandoning its book-publishing roots. Earlier this year, Spier added Viking Penguin and St. Martin's Press to its publishing roster. Spier, with more than 70 employees, was founded in 1929 and counted among its first clients Doubleday Doran &Co. for which it develop a campaign for Booth Tarkington's Young Mrs. Greeley. Doubleday is still a Spier client.
