-- Publishers Weekly, 2/1/1999

The Tribune Company reported that revenues in its education group rose 46% in 1998, to $329 million, while operating profit increased 20%, to $43 million. The improved results were due in part to acquisitions; excluding acquisitions, sales were up 9% and operating profit rose 12%. Among the companies acquired by the education division last year were Living &Learning Ltd., Keats Publishing, Masters Press and Lowell House.
