Audio Book Club, Lycos Ink E-Commerce Deal

-- Publishers Weekly, 3/15/1999

Audio Book Club and Web portal Lycos have signed an agreement that will promote audiobooks on the Lycos Network, the fast-growing Web portal site. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The alliance allows for the integration of links, banners and buttons to co-branded versions of the Audio Book Club and the Lycos (Lycos.com) network of sites, including Booksaloud.com, Radiospirits.com, Tripod.com, Angelfire. com and Whowhere.com.

"The Lycos network of sites represents a tremendous target for us that would be difficult to reach on our own," said Michael Herrick, vice-chairman and co-CEO of Audio Book Club. According to the most recent Internet traffic ratings, Lycos has an audience of more than 28 million unique monthly visitors.

Audio Book Club will place advertising and e-commerce banners on the Lycos Network, promoting memberships, audiobooks and other audio and video products. The alliance will also include the Tripod.com and Angelfire.com Web communities, whose members can now become audiobook merchants by linking to the new Audiobookclub.com on their home page.
