Newell to Head Weldon Owen

Frederick B. Newell, formerly president and publisher of Time-Life Custom Publishing, has been named president of Weldon Owen Publishing.

John Owen, Weldon Owen cofounder, called Newell "the kind of creative, entrepreneurial thinker we need." Newell will relocate to Weldon Owen's San Francisco headquarters.

Newell is no stranger to Weldon Owen, which publishes in the areas of food, lifestyle, home and children's reference for an international market. During his five years at Time-Life, he often worked with the firm, which also produces customized book projects in partnership with a variety of publishers and consumer operations. Newell noted that Weldon Owen will continue to work in partnership with Time-Life Books. Newell has also held senior management positions at Simon &Schuster and Grolier.
