Editorial App'ts at Element Books

-- Publishers Weekly, 4/12/1999

Element Books has added two new people to lead its editorial operations. Greg Brandenburg has been appointed publisher, North America, while Holly Schmidt has been named publishing director, alternative health, North America. Roberta Scimone, who was Element's editorial director, has left the company.

Brandenburg, who was director of subsidiary rights for Tuttle Publishing, will be in charge of Element's overall publishing program for North America. Schmidt, who joined Element from Rodale, will be in charge of expanding Element's original publishing program in the alternative-health field and will also oversee domestic subsidiary rights and book-club sales.

Peter Ackroyd, Element's CEO, said sales at the company for the year ended March 31 were up by more than 20%.
