BEA Update

-- Publishers Weekly, 4/12/1999

BEA's first official all-convention gathering will be "Bookselling in the Next Millennium," on Thursday, April 29, 4-5:30 p.m., in room 408AB at the convention center. The panelists will provide insights on coping with changing channels of distribution, handling online commerce and attracting consumers to books.

The panelists will be Peter Olson, chairman and CEO of Random House; Michael Lynton, chairman and CEO of Penguin Putnam; Philip M. Pfeffer, CEO of Borders Group; and Avin Domnitz, executive director of the ABA. The moderator will be Sally Dedecker, president of Sally Dedecker Enterprises.

The e-book world will also be heavily represented at BEA, with all major e-book manufacturers and publishers expected to participate. The majority of these are expected to unveil new product enhancements to attendees and the media. Participating e-book suppliers will include Adobe, Everybook, Franklin Electronic, Glassbook, Librius Inc., NuvoMedia, Peanut Press and Softbook. Panelists in an educational seminar, "The Future of E-Publishing," feature Martin Eberhard, CEO of NuvoMedia; Chris Pooley, president and CEO of Modern Age Books; Ted Nardin, group v-p, professional book group, McGraw-Hill; and Timothy Knowlton, president of Curtis Brown Ltd.
