'Scientific American' Joins Preiss for Books

-- Publishers Weekly, 4/12/1999

Byron Preiss Visual Publications has teamed up with Scientific American magazine to develop a series of adult nonfiction science and gift books under the Scientific American name. The first title, The Scientific American Book of the Cosmos, will be a main selection of the Book-of-the-Month Club next spring; Byron Preiss, founder of Preiss Visual Publications, said he is looking for a partner to publish a trade edition.

According to Preiss, more than 20 titles have been planned in the series; he anticipates that, with a few exceptions, the books will be done in conjunction with a trade book partner. Preiss told PW that the titles will feature original material as well as some content from Scientific American. He stressed, however, that "these will be real books, not just a repackaging of the magazine."
