Radziewicz to Head Da Capo

Judith Rosen -- Publishers Weekly, 4/19/1999

John Radziewicz, who launched and directed Houghton Mifflin's highly successful Mariner Books paperback publishing program, was named v-p/publisher of Da Capo Press, which was acquired by the Perseus Books Group from Wolters Kluwer in February.

At Mariner, Radziewicz published Penelope Fitzgerald, Robert Stone, John Kenneth Galbraith and Rick Bass. He also edited books by Pulitzer Prize-winning p t Mary Oliver and scientist Richard Dawkins. Prior to coming to Houghton Mifflin, Radziewicz was senior editor and directed Harvest Books at Harcourt Brace.

Under Radziewicz, Da Capo will publish 65 to 75 titles a year. The imprint will remain in New York City and share offices with the Perseus Books Group. Radziewicz, however, will work out of the Reading, Mass., office of the Perseus Books imprint and will report to David G hring, v-p/publisher of Perseus Books. G hring noted, "John is one of the shining stars of trade paperback publishing and a wonderful addition to the Perseus Books Group." At press time, no one had been named to replace Radziewicz.

Kelly to Lead HM Sales

In other unrelated changes in Houghton Mifflin's Trade and Reference Division, Greg Euson has left the company and will be replaced by Teri Kelly. Kelly, who has been with Houghton since 1982, most recently as v-p/director of special sales, has been appointed v-p/director of sales. She will lead Houghton's sales force during the upcoming transition in fulfillment services from Random House to Houghton's warehouse facility in Indianapolis. Wendy Strothman, executive v-p of HM's Trade and Reference division, said, "Teri has built a tremendously effective team in her area and is uniquely suited to managing people in the face of today's complex market."
