Wood Taking Imprint to Putnam

Marian Wood, who has been at Henry Holt for 25 years and has had her own imprint there as associate publisher, is moving to Penguin Putnam, where she will also have her own imprint, Marian Wood Books.Penguin Putnam president Phyllis Grann, to whom she will report, said she had approached Wood to join the company, and "we are committed to supporting her editorial interests as she builds her list here." Wood commented: "Change can be disturbing, but this one feels right to me." Holt president John Sterling said he was sorry to see Wood go, adding, "She has been a mainstay at Holt, and her legacy is a list of superb books and authors."
Wood, who will be a v-p in her new role, will focus, as before, on literary fiction, upmarket commercial fiction and substantive nonfiction. Among her Holt authors have been Philip Caputo, Penelope Fitzgerald, Sue Grafton, John Nichols, John Lanchester and C.S. Godshalk.
