PEN Fetes Writers of Color, Small Presses

PEN's Open Book Committee, the National Endowment for the Arts and the New York State Council on the Arts are co-sponsoring "Beyond Margins" on Friday, May 21, in New York City. The event will be the first in a series celebrating recent works by writers of color, with special emphasis on those published by small independent presses.

Among the authors to be honored at the event are Giannina Braschi, Yo-Yo Boing! (Latin American Literary Review Press); Manthia Diawara, In Search of Africa (Harvard Univ. Press); Martín Espada, Zapata's Disciple (South End Press); Elizabeth Nunez, Beyond the Limbo Silence (Seal Press); Lara Stapleton, The Lowest Blue Flame Before Nothing (Aunt Lute Books); Eileen Tabios, Black Lightning (Asian American Writers Workshop); and Luu Truong Khoi, Barbara Tran and Monique T.D. Truong, editors of Watermark (Asian American Writers Workshop).
