Tobin Named Editor-in-Chief at Ballantine

-- Publishers Weekly, 5/24/1999

Greg Tobin, vice-president and editor-in-chief of the Book-of-the-Month Club, has been named senior v-p and editor-in-chief of the Ballantine Publishing Group. He replaces Judith Curr, who left Ballantine for Pocket in April (News, Mar. 15). The appointment is effective June 28.

Tobin will direct all editorial activities of the Ballantine Group and its imprints, including Ballantine Books, Fawcett, Ivy, Del Rey, Wellspring and One World. He will report to Gina Centrello, president and publisher of the Ballantine Group, who praised Tobin's "estimable contacts" and "publishing savvy."

Tobin noted that his stint at BOMC and Quality Paperback Book Club "helped make me a better editor and manager." He joined QPB in 1992 as its editorial director, and in 1996 he was named editor-in-chief of BOMC. He is also an author; his fiction and nonfiction have been published by Ballantine and Doubleday.
