Two Canadian Publishers Join Forces in West

Leah Eichler -- Publishers Weekly, 6/7/1999

Polestar Book Publishers and Press Gang Publishers, both independent publishers based in British Columbia, Canada, will join forces to create a new association: the Polestar-Press Gang Publishing Alliance. Under the new venture, each press will continue to independently release new titles, although they will collaborate on certain projects.

Polestar-Press Gang will concentrate shared efforts on marketing and promotion, but the books will continue to be distributed by the LPC Group in the U.S. and Kate Walker and Co. in Canada. Press Gang, known for its writing by women of diverse cultural and class backgrounds, has been a fixture in the British Columbia publishing world since 1975. Polestar, which publishes a largely literary list of books as well as some titles catering to sports lovers and children, has been in business since 1981. The publishers will officially join forces as of June 30.
