Random House Integrates U.K. Operations

As part of the integration of Random House and Bantam Doubleday Dell, Random chairman Peter Olson announced last week that the company was combining its two U.K. operations-Random House UK Ltd. and Transworld Publishers Ltd.-to form the Random House Group Ltd. Gail Rebuck, chairman and CEO of Random House UK, will continue in that role and has been been given the additional title of chairman of the new group. Mark Barty-King, managing director of Transworld, will remain in that spot, reporting to Rebuck.
In a memo to Random U.K. employees, Olson indicated that the management teams of both Random UK and Transworld will remain unchanged. Olson added, "Transworld and Ran-dom House remain separate and distinct publishing divisions, each with its respective organizational structure, publishing direction and priorities." A Random spokesperson said no title reductions are planned as a result of the consolidation.
As part of the formation of Random House Group Ltd., Random's publishing operations in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa will be part of the new company, effective July 1. Although they will continue to operate as autonomous divisions, the managing directors of the Australian, New Zealand and South African groups will all report to Rebuck.
