The Brother's Brother Foundation, an international educational, relief and development organization, celebrated its 40th anniversary by noting that a recent shipment of books to South Africa gave the organization a lifetime total of 41 million books distributed to needy communities around the world.

Tori Wolan, the coordinator of the education program, said that so far this year publishers have donated 1,595,234 textbooks and supplementary materials, representing a 40% increase over the same period in 1998.

BBF's education program annually distributes over two million privately donated books to more than 50 countries. Among the publishers providing in-kind contributions to BBF are Harcourt, McGraw-Hill, Penguin Putnam, Simon & Schuster, John Wiley, Prentice Hall, Lynne Rienner Publishing, Aspen Publishers and Pockets Inc.

In 1998 the BBF education program distributed about two million books valued at an estimated $38 million. For information, contact the foundation at (412) 321-3160 or bbfound@aol.com. Its Web site is www.brothersbrother.com.
