VIKING Paul Slovak and Ivan Held have been appointed associate publishers. Slovak will continue as v-p of publicity and senior editor for Viking Penguin; Held will continue as v-p, director of marketing, for Viking. Slovak, who was director of Viking publicity from 1990 to 1995, when he was appointed v-p and senior editor for Viking Penguin, has worked with such authors as Don DeLillo, Terry McMillan and Stephen King. Held joined Viking in 1997 as v-p, director of marketing. At Random House he worked with E.L. Doctorow, Norman Mailer and Colin Powell, among others.

COLUMBIA UNIV. PRESS Peter H. Dimock was named senior executive editor. He was director of academic marketing at Random House and senior editor, Vintage Books.

SUNDANCE PUBLISHING Elizabeth Strauss was promoted to v-p of publishing. She was director of publishing.

HOUGHTON MIFFLIN Don Hymans was named head of Mariner Books. He was formerly with NAL and the New York Review of Books.

NORTH-SOUTH BOOKS Andrea Schneeman was promoted to editor-in-chief for SeaStar Books. She was executive editor€¦. Matthew Navarro has returned as v-p and managing director. He was business and operations manager at Barefoot Books.

WORD Diane Crawford was named director of public relations. She was publicist and editorial supervisor for CBS Cable.

SIMON & SCHUSTER CHILDREN'S Beth Sue Rose was promoted to director, educational sales and licensing. She was assistant director, educational sales.... Sheri Tan was promoted to executive editor, Simon Spotlight. She was senior editor€¦. Christine Domonkos was promoted to editor, Simon Spotlight. She was associate editor.... Kiki Thorpe was named editor, Simon Spotlight. She was previously with the Jim Henson Company.

UNIV. PRESS OF KENTUCKY John F. Zeigler was named senior editor. He was associate director for design and production at Indiana University Press.

GREENWOOD PUBLISHING GROUP Robert Hagelstein has retired as president. He will continue to work as a consultant for the company.... Wayne Smith was named president. He was v-p, editorial.

U.S. MEDIA HOLDINGS Satish Dua was named senior v-p/CFO. He was v-p and CFO at Millbrook Press.

PENN STATE UNIV. PRESS Gloria Kury was named editor, art history and humanities. She taught art history at Vassar, Yale and NYU.... Jennifer Norton was named production manager, succeeding Janet Dietz. Norton was a senior designer at Hadassah magazine.

YALE UNIV. PRESS Lara Heimert was promoted to editor. She was associate editor.

PLANNED TELEVISION ARTS Aric Caplan was named national marketing director. He was a literary and political publicity agent.

MICHELIN TRAVEL PUBLICATIONS Elizabeth A. Kunze was named marketing director. She was a consultant for several technology companies.

PENGUIN Christine Caruso was named director of communications. She was associate marketing director.

MARSHALL CAVENDISH Kate Nunn was promoted to editorial director, Benchmark Books. She was with Millbrook Press, Chelsea House and Harcourt Brace.... Peter Mavrikis was promoted to editor, Marshall Cavendish Reference. He was editor at Benchmark.

LYRICK STUDIOS L. Spencer Humphrey was named v-p of publishing. She was formerly associate publisher at Disney Publishing.

TOR FORGE Michael Tierno was named director, advertising sales promotion. He was publisher of Magazine and Bookseller.

PEN USA WEST Jonathan Kirsch was named president. He is an attorney, author, columnist and book critic.

SCHOLASTIC Stacy Sparrow was named senior product manager. She worked for Warner Lambert.
