Promotions, New Hires at HarperCollins
Jim Milliot -- 4/17/00

In moves that were part integration, part staffing-up, HarperCollins has made a number of changes in its general trade group's advertising, promotion and art departments. Laurie Rippon, who oversees all three departments as senior v-p for creative and marketing services, said that since the acquisition of Morrow/Avon she has been trying to get a team in place to manage the different functions. "We're up and running now," Rippon told PW.

Under the new structure, Mary Faughnan has joined HC as promotion director for HC general books, Perennial, Quill, Ecco Press, Cliff Street Books, Amistad and Regan Books. She had been director of advertising and promotion at Viking Penguin. John Brehm, formerly with Oxford University Press, is the new copy chief. Debbie Mercer remains promotion director for Morrow/ Avon and also has responsibility for Eos and HarperEntertainment.

The advertising department has added Rockelle Henderson as associate director. She had been advertising and promotion manager at Random House. Another newcomer to HC, Dirk Rowntree, has been named art director for the advertising and promotion departments. With the appointments of Henderson and Rowntree, Rippon said that HC's in-house ad agency is now "fully operational." Under the direction of Tracey Menzies, the unit will handle all advertising for the general books group.

Within the general trade group, Roberto de Vicq de Cumptich has been named to the new position of art director for HarperInformation. He had been v-p, creative director at Broadway Books. Lucy Albanese has joined HC as design director for the general books group. She had been with Henry Holt for 26 years.
