New Age 2000: A New Career Path
-- 5/15/00

Career Press is trying on a different hat next fall with New Page Books, an imprint thatwill debut with a selection of New Age titles and eventually branch out into other categories.

Founded in 1985, the New Jersey-based publisher has diversified its list to the point where a separate imprint was only logical, says publicity manager Jackie Michaels. "We've been wanting to do this for quite some time," she notes, adding that there are also plans to reclassify backlist titles "that don't fall into business, career, reference and personal finance" under the new imprint.

So what's a publisher best known for its business, motivational and educational titles doing branching out into books about Wicca, astrology and magic? "The timing and the market seems right," says Michaels of the new venture.

Gearing up for the fall launch, Career Press will feature New Page Books in its booth at the upcoming BEA, with an appearance by author Sirona Knight, whose Exploring Celtic Druidism will appear on the spring 2001 list. Meanwhile, the imprint's debut lineup boasts half a dozen titles and includes such well-known New Age authors as Gerina Dunwich and Patricia J. Telesco.

It's interesting to note that as one publisher launches a New Age venture, another marks a milestone in the category: Inner Traditions International, one of the first New Age publishers, is celebrating its 25thyear. This house, too, is launching a new imprint: Bindu Books, geared specifically for teens.
