HarperCollins to Launch Fourth Estate in U.S.

by Staff -- Publishers Weekly, 10/8/2001

HarperCollins is launching an American version of HarperCollins U.K.'s successful Fourth Estate imprint. The imprint will debut next May with the publication of Carol Shields's newest novel, Unless, which will be published simultaneously by the U.K.'s Fourth Estate.

Christopher Potter, publisher and managing director of Fourth Estate in the U.K., and Daniel Halpern, v-p and editorial director of Ecco and executive editor of HC General Books, will be co-publishers of Fourth Estate U.S. Day-to-day operations will be overseen by Clive Priddle, who has been named publishing director. HC plans to publish about six books per year under the Fourth Estate U.S. imprint, with most titles to be released simultaneously in the U.K.
