Hansen Resigns From Weekly Reader

by Staff -- Publishers Weekly, 10/8/2001

Rosanna Hansen has resigned as senior v-p, publisher and editor-in-chief of the Weekly Reader Corp. The author of 12 children's books, Hansen intends to write additional books as well as to serve as a publishing consultant. Hansen had been at Weekly Reader for about one year after serving a five-year stint with Reader's Digest.

Weekly Reader, part of WRC Media, had sales of $4.5 million for the second quarter, ended June 30, 2001, an increase of 10.2% over last year's second quarter. Other WRC units include World Almanac Education, which had a 7.2% sales increase, to $12.3 million, driven largely by higher sales of its Facts on File Internet news service. Sales at Gareth Stevens slowed in the quarter. Sales at American Guidance rose 1.4%, to $13.9 million, while revenues at CompassLearning fell 2.4%, to $20.6 million.
