The first book to investigate the current scandal about child molestation engulfing the Catholic Church in the U.S. has been signed. Gerry Howard at Broadway/Doubleday made a "significant" six-figure preempt to secure Our Fathers: The Secret Lives of Priests by David France, who is the senior editor for investigations at Newsweek magazine. France is an award-winning journalist whose work has appeared in the New Yorker, Esquire and the New York Times Magazine. The sale, of North American rights, was made by Todd Shuster at Zachary Harmsworth Shuster.
