Volini, Pfuhl Move Up at Random

by Staff -- Publishers Weekly, 3/25/2002

Random House, which revamped its upper management structure in November, has made several new changes, including the promotion of Edward Volini to the additional post of chief financial officer. Volini will also continue as chief administrative officer, a position to which he was appointed last November.

Volini succeeds Arnold Kiel who, after a brief stint in the U.S., is returning to Germany as chairman and CEO of the company's German division, Random House Verlagsgruppe. Kiel will report to Jörg Pfuhl, president of Random House worldwide, who has had his duties expanded to include supervision of Random House Verlagsgruppe, a role he is assuming from Random House chairman Peter Olson.

Harvill Added to Random U.K.

The Random empire continues to expand, most recently with the acquisition of British publisher Harvill Press. The Harvill hardcover imprint will remain an independent imprint within Random U.K.'s operation, and its paperback list, currently released under the Panthers banner, will be published by Random's Vintage unit.
