A YA Debut Makes 5

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 3/25/2002

One book was not mentioned in last week's column, on the subject of debut novels that sold more than 100,000 copies in 2001: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, a first YA novel by Ann Brashares, which sold just under 125,000 copies for Delacorte last year. It was the only young adult first fiction to sell at that level. As noted in the earlier column, only four debut fiction titles enjoyed sales of more than 100,000 copies in 2001. Brashares's book has been on PW's children's fiction bestseller list for five months.
