Jogger Book Is Scribner Auction Win

A book by the woman jogger who was attacked in New York City's Central Park and left for dead five years ago, and whose identity has always been closely guarded, was bought by Scribner editor Beth Wareham in a heated two-day auction that attracted six bidders. She bought world rights in I Was the Central Park Jogger from Joni Evans at William Morris, paying in the mid six figures, and plans to publish next year. The case was a newspaper sensation at the time, and there is still keen media interest; the agent holds first serial rights. Writer/editor Richard Marek will be writing the book with the still-anonymous jogger, whose identity will be revealed when the book is published.
