Marino to Leave Lightning

by Jim Milliot -- Publishers Weekly, 4/8/2002

Ed Marino, president and CEO of Lightning Source, is leaving the company to become president and CEO of Presstek, a provider of direct digital imaging technology. Marino joined Lightning Source in January 2000 and helped build the company into one of the largest digital service providers in the print-on-demand and e-book fields.

John Ingram, vice-chairman of Ingram Industries, said he is working with Marino on a "quick but reasonable transition plan." Following Marino's departure, Ingram will serve as interim CEO of Lightning. Ingram told PW he "expects to be heavily involved with Lightning for the next several months," and added that he "will work with the existing staff to decide on the appropriate structure going forward."

Ingram played a major role in launching Lightning (originally known as Lightning Print) in late 1997, although he has remained in the background the last several years. Ingram said, "Our strategy tomorrow will be the same as it is today," he promised.
