Adult Trade Sales Surge

Sales of trade books fell back to earth a bit in February following skyrocketing increases in January, although sales in the adult hardcover and two children's segments posted robust gains in the month. According to the AAP monthly statistics, sales in the adult hardcover category rose 73.1% in February, giving the segment an 80.7% increase for the two-month period. Children's hardcover sales increased 57.5% in February and were up 66.6% for the first two months of the year, while children's paperback sales rose 25.8% for the month and 43.2% for the year. Trade paperback sales were up only 2.6% in February, but were still ahead 24% in the year to date. Declines in the month were reported in the professional segment, where sales fell 13.3% and elhi, with sales off 2.9%.
