The Knightly News

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 4/8/2002

Talk about an eagerly awaited book: when Arlene Morse got to work at 8 a.m. on March 26, at Hawley-Cooke Booksellers in Louisville, Ky., she was greeted by a line of more than 250 customers--"the happiest, smilingest people I've ever seen"--waiting to get their hands on Knight: My Story by Bob Knight with Bob Hammel. By 2 p.m., the store had sold 949 copies; they limited quantities to five per person and ordered another 1,000 overnighted from Ingram. Clearly the one-day laydown orchestrated by St. Martin's/Thomas Dunne worked--as has its extensive promotion campaign. The legendary NCAA basketball coach is in the midst of a 10-city tour, on which his appearances, said associate publicity director Dori Weintraub, "have been mob scenes." National media appearances have included Today, The Tonight Show and Live with Regis and Kelly as well as numerous sports radio talk shows across the country. Copies in print total 200,000 after two trips back to press.
