Kensington Tweaks Sales Operation

by Steven Zeitchik -- Publishers Weekly, 4/15/2002

Kensington Publishing has made some minor changes in its sales operation, including the appointment of Debby Tobias as director of retail and special sales. Stuart Miller, who had been working primarily on independent accounts, has moved to a part-time position, and Tobias's duties will include working with independents. Other roles Miller served will be spread throughout the company, and sales director Doug Medini will continue to focus on national accounts.

Kensington publicity director Joan Schulhafer told PW that Tobias "will hold a very different role" than Miller did, noting that Tobias will concentrate on looking for opportunities in nontraditional markets. Schulhafer explained that with last year's purchase of Citadel Press and the development of the African-American imprint Dafina, the company felt more attention needed to be paid to special markets: "They're more important here than they have been historically."
