Publishing Institute Established

HarperCollins Children's Books and the Children's Defense Fund have jointly announced the formation of the Walter Dean Myers Publishing Institute, to be held during the Children's Defense Fund/Langston Hughes Children's Literature Festival, which takes place each year on the former Alex Haley Farm in Tennessee. This year's event will be Aug. 2–4.

The institute, which is being funded through matching donations from Myers and HarperCollins, is open to undergraduate students from the organization Black Community Crusade for Children who are interested in writing and/or publishing. The program will run for at least five years.
