Moore Goes to Warner

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 6/17/2002

Michael Moore, the iconoclastic lefty whose Stupid White Men, from ReganBooks at Harper, turned out to be the surprise nonfiction bestseller of the season, has gone to Warner Books in a two-book deal said to be worth about $3 million. He signed with Time Warner Trade Publishing chief Larry Kirshbaum, who did the deal with agent Mort Janklow. The first of the two books, scheduled for fall next year, will be about the issues facing voters in the 2004 presidential election; the second will be a personal memoir. Moore has been gaining increasing visibility of late; in addition to his bestseller, his movie Bowling for Columbine, about the American passion for guns, won a special prize at the Cannes Film Festival. The Warner deal is for world English and audio rights, with Moore set to read his own audio.
