Cosmo's White in New Deal

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 7/1/2002

Kate White, the Cosmopolitan editor whose sassy first mystery set in the fashion magazine world, If Looks Could Kill, became a huge bestseller for Warner after being chosen by TV's Kelly Ripa for her new book club, has made a new two-book deal with the publisher. Warner chief Maureen Egen and Sara Ann Freed of Mysterious Press, who is White's editor, made the North American rights deal, a "very major" one, with West Coast agent Sandra Dijkstra. There's still a book to go on an earlier contract, A Body to Die For, which is set for publication next spring; the two new ones, both starring her true crime writer-sleuth Bailey Weggins, will appear at annual intervals in 2004 and 2005.
