Second Golden Signing at Knopf

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 7/1/2002

Arthur Golden, whose Memoirs of a Geisha, published nearly five years ago, is still going strong in paperback, has signed for a second novel with his Knopf editor, Robin Desser, exercising her option for a new book. She bought world rights from agent Leigh Feldman at Darhansoff Verrill & Feldman for an untitled book that will be an account of the making of an American tycoon in the early years of the last century. The first 150 pages, on which the deal was made, portray a boy growing up in the Amsterdam slums at the turn of the century and offer, said Feldman, a remarkable portrait of the city at that time. The book is due for delivery next spring and should be published before the end of the year.
