Dante Deal Down the Drain

by Shannon Maughan -- Publishers Weekly, 7/1/2002

Last April came word that In the Hand of Dante, the thriller by Nick Tosches due out from Little, Brown in September, was scheduled to be recorded as a simultaneously released audiobook by HighBridge Audio. Tosches had insisted that only actor Johnny Depp, his personal friend, do the reading. At press time, HighBridge notified PW that it has cancelled the project due to scheduling conflicts (Depp is currently in London filming the movie Neverland) that would prevent the simultaneous publication of the audio and print editions. However, the subsidiary rights department at Little, Brown says that HighBridge walked away from the deal, and that the paperwork had never been signed for it. As a result, audiobook rights have reverted back to the author via his representatives at the Scovil Chichak Galen Literary Agency in New York City.
