Bestselling author Bob Greene (Duty: A Father, His Son, and the Man Who Won the War) is back on the national charts with Once Upon a Town: The Miracle of the North Platte Canteen. This small Nebraska town was a regular stop for soldiers during WWII and was renowned for its volunteer-staffed canteen, which fed as many as 8,000 soldiers from Christmas 1941 until the end of the war. Award-winning Chicago Tribune columnist Greene searched out the story of the women and the servicemen they fed and his patriotic tome found a welcoming audience. A successful 13-city tour (six stops in Nebraska cities) ended in mid-June and Morrow has gone back to press six times, bringing the in-print total to 115,600 books.
