Ahead, Not Behind

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 7/15/2002

It's all in the timing. Book #10 in the megaselling Left Behind series, The Remnant, lands at the top of this week's hardcover bestseller list after a week in the stores, following its one-day laydown on July 2. Although this is the series that personifies bestselling religion fiction, it is not to be found on our July religion bestseller list on page 26. The reason is simple: our July chart is based solely on June sales. Even one day of sales tracked for that monthly list would have easily put the latest Tim LaHaye/Jerry B. Jenkins hit in the top slot. Tyndale shipped more than 2.4 million copies of The Remnant prior to pub date and has earmarked $3 million to market the new book as well as the entire series' product line; first printing was 2.75 million copies. This is the fourth book in the series to debut in the lead position on the national charts. The series has sold more than 50 million copies to date.
