Amazon.ca Gets Green Light

The Department of Canadian Heritage has determined that Amazon.ca is not subject to the Investment Canada Act, a ruling that allows Amazon.com to continue operating its Amazon.ca Web site, which launched June 25. According to Canadian Heritage, in order for the act to apply to an investment by a non-Canadian, the investment must involve the establishment of a new Canadian business or the acquisition of control of an existing Canadian business. Amazon does not maintain an office in Canada.
