E-book Sales Grow at Syngress

by Calvin Reid -- Publishers Weekly, 7/15/2002

Syngress Publishing, a Rockland, Mass.–based firm specializing in books on technology, has reached an agreement to sell digital editions of its print titles through Amazon.com's e-book store.

Syngress (www.syngress.com) was founded five years ago by Chris Williams and Amy Pederson, former executives with IDG and with Books24x7. The company offers titles on subjects ranging from computer security to LEGO robot toys. Syngress is offering almost all of its titles in PDF e-book format. The company publishes about 36 books a year and has a backlist of nearly 60 titles. Syngress books are also licensed to Books24x7.

Williams said Syngress has been selling e-books through its own Web site, and he told PW that e-book sales have doubled over the past 12 months. "E-books are a growth sector," Williams said. "They're a natural for technology books. Our customers want both print and digital editions for their core topics and are happy to get just the e-book version for other titles," said Williams.
