Donna Summer Tell-All for RH

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 8/5/2002

The original "Bad Girl," legendary singer and songwriter Donna Summer, is to write a memoir for Random House's Villard imprint. Jonathan Karp, Random executive editor, who made the world rights buy from Mel Berger and Susan Weaving at William Morris, said, "I don't think people realize how unusual Donna's story is," noting that she was brought up in a churchgoing Boston family and walked away from her musical career as Queen of Disco nearly 20 years ago. She won five Grammys and had 11 gold albums during a career that was born at the very start of disco. Summer said her book, to be written with Marc Eliot, will tell of her times of triumph and tragedy, and "about how I rediscovered myself." Publication is planned for fall of next year.
