Ike's Son to Write on Dad

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 8/12/2002

John S.D. Eisenhower is a well-known military historian as well as the son of the wartime general and, later, president, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and until now he has avoided writing about his famous father. At last, however, he has decided to do a book about Dad, and General Ike: A Personal Reminiscence has been signed by senior editor Bruce Nichols at the Free Press. John will concentrate on Ike's military career, placing him in a military and historical context and, of course, providing many personal anecdotes that are known only to him. Nichols, who bought world rights, including first serial and audio, said that the younger Eisenhower is one of the country's best military historians, and "his perspective on his father's career is as deeply felt as it is deeply considered—an unbeatable combination." Nichols actually made the deal with the author's wife, Joanne Thompson Eisenhower, who is acting as his agent. The book will be published next June, followed by a Touchstone trade paperback.
