In his first acquisition in his new spot as editor-at-large at S&S, Rob Weisbach has signed comedienne Ellen DeGeneres, with whom he enjoyed a big success seven years ago, for a new book. The untitled tome will be a collection of comic essays, in the vein of her bestselling My Point... and I Do Have One, still around as a Bantam paperback. Weisbach paid a reported $1 million to Esther Newberg and Eddy Yablans at ICM for world rights in thenew collection and plans to publish next autumn, around the time Ellen launches a daytime talk show. The star's mid-'90s hit show, Ellen, portrayed her as a zany bookseller, and she received enormous publicity as the first big female TV star to come out as a lesbian.
