Short Takes

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 9/9/2002

Broadway's Charles Conrad has signed what he's been assured is a no-holds-barred memoir by Walter Yetnikoff, legendary head of the CBS Music Group for many years, and mentor to a dazzling range of stars that includes Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand, Michael Jackson and Mick Jagger. Conrad got world rights, plus first serial and electronic, from Dan Strone at Trident Media Group, for publication next fall; co-author will be award-winning music writer David Ritz.... Agent Jennifer Joel is leaving Nick Ellison to work for ICM's publishing division.... Malaika Adero at Atria bought a memoir by noted black editor (of Heart and Soul magazine) Stephanie Stokes-Oliver; her father was noted Washington State Republican figure Charles M. Stokes, and the book will be called Song of My Father. The world rights deal was made, after an auction, with agent Victoria Sanders.... Warner publisher Jamie Raab bought two more thrillers by brilliant young Massachusetts lawyer Nancy Geary, whose Misfortune is already out; first of the two, in a substantial six-figure North American deal signed with Nick Ellison, is Gemini, a murder story set in Philadelphia high society.
