With a Nod to John Donne

A first novel from Britain, about an amorous young calligrapher who, in transcribing the love poems of Donne, finds that they illuminate his own tangled love life, was bought by Houghton Mifflin editor-at-large Elaine Pfefferblit. It's called The Calligrapher, and the author is Edward Docx, whose book will be published in the U.K. next June. Pfefferblit bought U.S., Canadian and first serial from agent Kathleen Anderson at Anderson Grinberg, and foreign rights have already been sold in Germany, Italy, Spain, France and Sweden.
