Rap Artistry

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 9/30/2002

Robert B. Parker, just recently elected Mystery Writers of America Grand Master, has not lost his touch after penning more than 40 books. And he has certainly proved there is life after Spenser (29 books so far). His third Sunny Randall novel, Shrink Rap, lands at #8 with more than 130,000 copies in print. It garnered his best reviews for the series to date, including a starred one in PW. Parker began his tour—his second of 2002—at Bookends in Ridgewood, N.J., a town he and his wife, Joan, lived in during the fall of 1957, when Parker was part of the nascent space program. Parker went on to spend his 70th birthday on the road in Philadelphia—pro that he is, he didn't even ask Putnam for a cake—before continuing on through Washington, D.C.; Louisville and Lexington, Ky.; Dayton, Ohio; and Milwaukee, Wis.
