The Audiobook-Friendly Skies

by Shannon Maughan -- Publishers Weekly, 10/7/2002

Bring on the headphones! Last month, Air Canada travelers got their first taste of a new in-flight audiobook entertainment program called SKYword. A joint venture between the airline, ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation, Amazon.ca and HarperCollinsCanada, the SKYword audio channel, available on all Air Canada flights, offers author interviews and exclusive audiobook excerpts from HarperAudio recordings. The extended SKYword program also includes book excerpts in enRoute Magazine, a coupon offer (in featured HarperCollinsCanada books) to Amazon.ca and information on reading and literacy provided by ABC CANADA. Content for the channel is changed monthly; September spotlighted children's books including titles by Roald Dahl and C.S. Lewis while October will focus on new fiction, including works by Oscar Hijuelos and Ann Patchett.
