World Education Market Set for May

by Herbert R. Lottman -- Publishers Weekly, 12/2/2002

The World Education Market (WEM) will convene for the fourth time May 20–23, 2003, in Lisbon, Portugal, site of last year's meeting. The first two WEMs took place in Vancouver; henceforth, the fair will probably remain in North America because much of its target audience is there.

For the same reason, publishers and other suppliers from the U.S. and elsewhere desirous of entering the European market for books and other educational materials will find WEM a useful place to be. Among major players who participate regularly in the World Education Market are America's Scholastic, Britain's Pearson and HarperCollins, France's Hachette and Sweden's Bonnier. Exhibitors also come from the ranks of book and media publishers such as Dorling Kindersley, educational institutions including Oxford and Boston University and groups such as the National Science Foundation.

Last year's fair brought together nearly 2,000 individual participants and 950 institutions and companies from 71 countries. For more information: www.wemex.com.
