Debut by Irish PM's Daughter

A first novel by 21-year-old Cecelia Ahern, daughter of Ireland's prime minister, Bertie Ahern, made a million-dollar sale as part of a two-book U.S. rights deal signed by Peternelle Van Arsdale at Hyperion. She acted swiftly to secure the book from Dublin agent Marianne Gunn O'Connor, who late in 2002 sold it for a high six figures to Lynne Drew at HarperCollins U.K. The book is provisionally called P.S. I Love You, and is the story of a young Irish woman whose lover dies suddenly, leaving her instructions on how to carry on without him; it's also a study (in the vein of the TV series Friends) of the importance of friendships in smoothing a life.
