Woolf Still at the Door

Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 1/13/2003

Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway, the inspiration for The Hours, was first published back in 1925. A new, redesigned edition is selling very well (#6 on the San Francisco Chronicle list); many retailers are reporting increased sales of all Woolf titles. About a year ago, Harcourt redesigned all of its Harvest Woolf titles. In preparation for the movie, the publisher stickered the book and did lots of catalogue promotion, including a blurb from Cunningham. Prior to this edition, Harvest had sold more than 330,000 copies of Mrs. Dalloway. Harcourt went back to press for 20,000 more and reports selling more copies in the first week of 2003 than it did in the first quarter of 2002.
