A Memoir by Mel

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 1/20/2003

A memoir by the irrepressible writer/producer/director/actor Mel Brooks (perhaps covering all his 2,000 years?) has been acquired for HarperEntertainment by executive editor Mauro DiPreta. He bought world English rights from agent Dan Strone at Trident Media Group and plans to publish in 2004. The anecdotal book will cover the five decades Brooks has spent in show business, in which time he has won Oscars, Emmys, Grammys and Tonys. He lived through the golden years of TV comedy, and his latest hit is the Broadway version of his Academy Award–winning 1968 movie, The Producers. As might be expected, he had a comment on becoming an author: "I have always been a huge admirer of my own work. I'm one of the funniest and most entertaining writers I know. And I just can't wait to read my book."
