Glass, Ha Jin Stay at Pantheon

Two National Book Award–winning authors have been signed up for new novels at Pantheon: Ha Jin and Julia Glass, winners for, respectively, Waiting (1999) and Three Junes (2002). The house's LuAnn Walther bought world rights in Ha Jin's next, War Trash, narrated by a Chinese prisoner of war in an American prison camp during the Korean War, dealing with the different cruelties meted out by Chinese, Koreans and Americans. It was a six-figure buy from Lane Zachary at Zachary Shuster Harmsworth.
Deborah Garrison bought the next novel by Glass as part of a two-book deal with agent Gail Hochman at Brandt & Hochman that also includes a story collection. The new novel, called A Piece of Cake, features a New York pastry chef. It's set for summer 2005; meanwhile, the paperback of Three Junes is due next month.
